1.Treat it as a discussion , and not for debates sake .
We're all here to learn something , we're all here to refine our faith through fire .
2.Intellectual honesty is important .
This relates closely to rule number 1 . Be honest to yourself when considering your oppositions arguments , if they seem true , concede and do your research . Don't add some fudge factor in to guarantee your "victory" .
3.You're not there to win or lose .
The thing I've learned from these Forum arguments is that because there is no moderator , things can go on and on and on... If you "win" because you outsmart your opponent , well refer to rule number 1 . Being a Malaysian and having conversed with a few less-literate skeptics out there , I understand your pain when you present a certain argument and they misinterpret inside out (I've been on the opposite end before too) , and then they fire you . One could easily respond by ignoring them and claiming that they're just too stupid to understand . No , as I said earlier , everyone's here to learn something , try your best to reach their level (Not too far down though , they might just drag you down to their level and beat you by experience) of coherence , so that they can truly learn something . Because if you both walk away from each other , each person will believe that that certain individual has won .
4.Do your research , if you don't know , say don't know .
The fact that you know of your own ignorance is the next step to knowledge . Because of this , you'll have so many opportunities to learn more . Again , don't add in fudge factors for the sake of "winning"
Just a little of what I've learned through different forums over the years(3 to be precise) ...
Anyway , Chemistry and Sejarah was horrible...
